Garage Sale Tips for easy organization and surefire success

There are many tips that we could pass your way to help you have a garage sale that is truly successful.  There is enough to tell that we have actually created a whole guidebook to help out - more on that at the bottom of the page.  What we have done here is provide you with a few general tips and guidelines that should help you on your way to a successful garage sale.

Organizing a garage sale

Be sure to start organizing a few weeks before your sale.  If you put in just a few minutes a day or set aside a block of time on each weekend you will find that the preparation happens quickly and easily and does not need to be an all-night madhouse the night before the sale.

Pricing garage sale items

Always price things based on what you'd be willing to pay for the same item yourself at someone else's garage sale.  Never set your prices based on your heart, or memories of an item.  The people who come to your sale don't share those memories and won't pay for them!

Garage Sale Signs and Flyers

Make them big, bold and VERY easy to read.  Put up flyers in your local grocery stores at least a week before your sale (2 weeks is better).  Don't be scared to advertise.  The more customers you get, the better, because it will create a sellers market (several people all wanting to buy the same items) which means better prices for your garage sale items.

Garage Sale Bargaining

The most important thing is to have fun with the bargaining.  Your goal is to sell things, so be willing to meet people 1/2 way in prices - but never sell at a price that makes you unhappy. Oh..and always be polite.  A simple "No Thanks" is always enough.
